Liberty girls hope to grab first EPC win this week
Coming off a 1-16 season a year ago, Liberty’s girls lacrosse team certainly had room for improvement.
The Hurricanes have taken those steps forward this spring, but are looking for more.
Heading into this week the ’Canes were sporting a 4-8 record with six games left on the season to improve on that mark.
Monday’s 10-9 loss to Central Catholic still kept the team away from one of their major goals this season and that’s grabbing a league win.
Even though Liberty has been competitive throughout the season, the Hurricanes are still hoping to achieve an EPC victory before the season closes.
“This season started with us making team goals and individual goals,” said head coach Laurie Ann Muller. “We’ve succeeded in reaching most of our team goals and are playing at a competitive level and have forced teams to play strong for the whole 50 minutes.”
Liberty will get their best shot at grabbing a conference victory this Saturday when they take on Northampton.
The Kids (2-10) were able to sneak away an 8-7 win earlier this year over Liberty, but a shot at redemption will come this weekend.
“The one goal we have not achieved yet is an EPC win,” said Muller. “Our plan as a team is to finish out the season with a few EPC wins and improving the number in our win column.
“The girls on the team this year play as a unit and work hard every day they come out to the field. I am lucky to have girls with heart and strong competitive spirits.”
Freedom’s girls are still sitting in prime position with a 9-3 mark heading down the stretch. The Pates have won four of their last five with the lone loss coming against in a 16-5 defeat to Parkland.
Freedom will be tested this week with Central Catholic on Tuesday before another pivotal showdown with Easton Thursday.
The Rovers (8-2) handled Freedom 17-9 the first time this season.
On the boys side, Bethlehem Catholic (0-8) and Liberty (1-10) were both searching for their first win of the season heading into Monday’s showdown and the Hurricanes came out victorious with a 13-1 win.
Both teams squared off on Tuesday as well in a rubber match.
Freedom (5-7) looks primed to finish out the season strong with Northampton, Pleasant Valley Phillipsburg, Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty left on the schedule.
