BC girls edge Eastburg
Bethlehem Catholic’s girls’ track and field team pulled out a 76-74 victory over East Stroudsburg South last Tuesday at BASD Stadium.
In sprinting events, Isabella Rosario won the 200 in 28.30, and Kamryn Williamson won the 400 in 1:07.00. Also in the 400, Maddie Wickel placed second in 1:09.00, and Sarah Knoble placed third in 1:11.00.
In distance and mid-distance, Marcela Banuelos won the 800 in 2:41.0 and the 3200 in 12:37, and Lauren Bunke won the 1600 in 7:51.
In throwing events, Sarah Cuttic took first place in the javelin with a distance of 95-06.
“It’s been great. I’ve been getting [first place] quite a lot lately,” Cuttic said. “I do a five-step run up, so you kind of stay sideways and then keep your arm back, run up to the line and throw it.”
Cuttic won on her second throw.
“Today is freezing. It definitely affects it. Throwers, I know, were keeping gloves and blankets on, and runners, I know, are jogging to stay warm,” she said.
Julia Zambo won the shot put with a distance of 29-04.00 and the discus with a distance of 79-02. Wickel placed second in the shot put with a distance of 72-04, and Natalie Andrew placed third in the same event with a distance of 70-02.
In the long jump, Liz Lieb took first place with a distance of 16-07.00.
At the Allentown School District Invitational this past weekend, Hope Brown on the 800 with a time of 2:27.05. Lauren Bunke captured the 1600 run in 5:21.93, just ahead of Alyssa Deschler of Central who had a time of 5:21.98. Mikayla Jones was fifth in the 200.
The girls 400 relay team took third in 2:23.43. Emma Pfeiffer was fourth in the pole vault clearing 9-0 and Liz Lieb was second in the long jump with a distance of 16-9, Lieb was also fifth in the triple jump.
Julia Zambo was fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus. Sarah Cuttic took fifth in the javelin.
