Robert P. Markwich
Robert P. Markwich, 88, of Center Valley, died April 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family in Lehigh Valley Hospice. He was the husband of Winifred (Shafer) Markwich, celebrating 66 years of marriage this past March. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Bernard Markwich and Elizabeth (Blaker) Markwich.
After graduating from Allen High School in 1947, he spent a couple of summers in Ocean City, N.J. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and served as central control operator in a B-29 and was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant after four years.
He spent 20 years in the insurance business, 16 years with Metropolitan and four with Prudential, 18 of which as an administrative manager.
He was very active in the Allentown Elks Lodge #130 as a former Exalted Ruler, overseeing the Elks charity committee. In 1976, he opened his own business, Marky’s Office and was successful for 21 years until he retired.
He loved golfing, boating, flying and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Patrice S. and her husband William Strohl, of Cherryville; son, Todd D. and his companion Joanne Hamlin, of Green Castle; sister, Gloria Perlis, of Stroudsburg; brother-in-law, George Shafer; granddaughters, Stephanie and her husband Charles Powell and Nadine Lilly and her companion Andy Rinehimer; great-grandson, Hunter Frick; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard.
