FHS softball hits bump in road in loss to EHS
Freedom softball coach Nora Lorady said she was not too concerned about the future of the Patriots’ season after their 8-0 loss to Easton last Tuesday, and she was right.
Two days later, Freedom defeated Whitehall, 6-1, and the following day, the Patriots won, 14-13, in a comeback victory over Allentown Central Catholic.
Freedom’s softball team began its season with four straight wins before losing to Easton.
“I know Easton is really tough. I thought we would score some runs. One of our goals is to score at least five runs a game, and it’s the first game we didn’t do that, and that’s going to happen sometimes,” said Freedom coach Nora Lorady.
Easton had the bases loaded in the third inning, but Freedom pitcher Juliana Presto got out of the inning on a fly ball.
The Red Rovers loaded the bases again in the fourth, but this time Lina Ramos hit a grand slam with two outs to put Easton ahead 4-0.
“So we get two outs and then the wheels kind of fall off, and that’s when we need to focus and bear down and become more aggressive and have that mentality that we can do it,” Coach Lorady said.
Freedom shortstop Corrin Gill hit a triple to left field in the fifth inning but was left on base.
“We just moved her to leadoff because she’s been doing pretty good up to bat,” said Lorady.
Gill, Taylor Resetar, and Brenna Ortwein had home runs in the Patriots’ 11-4 win against Bangor last Saturday.
One day earlier, Julia Roman had a home run and a double in the Patriots’ 8-1 victory over Dieruff.
“I’m not too concerned,” Lorady said. “We have good leaders. They’ll do all right.”
