’Cane boys top Kids, Canaries

Liberty’s boys’ track and field team defeated Northampton, 91-54, and Allen, 100-46, last Thursday at Liberty.

Top performers for the Hurricanes were Jaden Vazquez in the 100 with a time of 10.8, Devon West in the 200 with a time of 23.0, Darlyn Fermin in the 800 with a time of 2:06.6, and Casey Frank in the 3200 with a time of 11:03.9.

In throwing events, Nolan Beagall won the javelin with a distance of 138-02.

The Hurricanes had a two-three-four finish in the discus led by Shane McLaughlin with a distance of 130-07, Trevor Harris with a distance of 118-08, and Keaton Wesley with a distance of 106-02.

“Today I really zoned things out and was able to get a good throw,” said McLaughlin. “My coach [Chris D’Emilio] is preaching slow in back and fast in front. If you’re spinning too fast, you will get off balance. You want to put power into your throw.”

In jumps, Daeshawn Teague won the long jump with a distance of 21-00.00, and Jay McGill won the triple jump with a distance of 40-02.00. Teague was second in the triple with a distance of 39-09.00, and Daniel Damon was third with a distance of 39-05.00.
