Joseph R. Kornfeind
Joseph R. “Duff” Kornfeind, 90, of North Whitehall Township, died Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in his home.
He and his wife Mary A. (Gray) Kornfeind were married 65 years last Oct. 4.
Born Aug. 13, 1927, in Northampton, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary (Walters) Kornfeind.
He started his career alongside his father in the family business, Kornfeind’s Market, Northampton, where the experiences gained led him and his wife to open their own store, J. Kornfeind’s Market, Egypt, in 1968.
For years, he enjoyed having great customers, vendors and joking around with everyone who worked with him.
Never afraid to take a risk enabled him to create a business that on April 3 would mark 50 years.
His true passions were ”betting on the horses” and knowing every point spread on any baseball or football game.
He loved his vacations in Saratoga. Most of his summers were spent floating around his pool and grilling on the “doggie maker.”
He loved life with all its risks and, in the end, he beat the odds with a life well lived.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Egypt, Whitehall.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children Debra A. Koons (John) of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Christine M. Messer (Michael) of Center Valley, Joseph F. Kornfeind (Elaine) of Allentown, Frank L. Kornfeind (Mica) of Kutztown; sisters Mary Kelchner of Whitehall, Ann Paluda of Northampton; brothers John Kornfeind (Shirley) of Florida, Edward Kornfeind (Jennie) of Northampton; grandsons Eric M. Messer and Jack S. Kornfeind.
He was predeceased by siblings Hermina, Stephen, Frank and Louis and his best friend, PeeWee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. April 6 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 4456 Main St., Egypt, Whitehall.
