Liberty track opens with wins over EHS
The Liberty Hurricanes opened the 2018 track and field season with an 83-67 victory for the girls’ team over Easton and an 87-62 victory for the boys’ team also over Easton last Wednesday at Easton.
First place finishers for the Hurricane girls were Payton Shaffer in the 100 in 12.8 and in the 200 in 26.6.
Greta Stuckey won the 800 in 2:26.5.
Liberty’s girls won all three relay events, the 4x1 in 51.9, the 4x4 in 4:10.1, and the 4x8 in 10:16.8.
The Hurricane girls also had a one-two-three finish in the long jump with Ellyana Huertas placing first with a jump of 15-07.00, followed by Grace Mittl with a jump of 14-07.50, and Jessica Rodriguez with a jump of 13-04.00.
Mittl won the triple jump with a 31-00.00.
Eleni Prodes took first place in discus with a 94-04 and in javelin with a 102-06.
In boys’ results, Jaden Vazquez won the 100 in 22.9, and Ryan Wycherley won the 800 in 2:11.2.
Christian Tackett placed first in the 300 hurdles in 42.1.
Liberty’s boys’ 4x1 relay team also placed first in 44.7.
Daniel Damon won the long jump with a 20-03.00.
In the triple jump, Jay McGill placed first with a 41-11.00, Damon was second with a 38-04.00, and Daeshawn Teague was third with a 38-02.00.
Liberty had another one-two-three finish in the shot put with Trevor Harris taking first place with a 42-03.00, Shane McLaughlin taking second with a 39-11.00, and Keaton Wesley taking third with a 39-00.00.
McLaughlin won the discus with a 119-06.
Gabriel Hontz took first place in the javelin with a 129-05, Nolan Beagall was second with a 125-08, and Edward Campbell placed third with a 105-03.
The Hurricanes’ next track and field meet is scheduled for this Thursday at Whitehall.
