Peter G. Manakos

Peter G. Manakos, of Salisbury Township, died peacefully March 21, 2018, at Whitehall Manor, Allentown, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Froso (Perdikis) Manakos. They were married for 60 years. Born in Plaka, Athens, Greece, he was a son of the late George and Chrysoula Manakos.

He graduated from the University of Athens, Greece, the Naval Academy of Greece and the London School of Economics.

He was the executive director of the Lansdale Public Library for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Bethlehem and St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Allentown.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lodge #283, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley, Allentown, former Lehigh County Republican Committee member and life member of the Order of AHEPA, Bethlehem Homer Chapter #65.

He was an avid gardener, swimmer and loved to take numerous trips to Greece and Cyprus.

He was a devoted grandfather to his two grandsons whom he adored.

He is survived by his wife; daughter-in-law, Maria (Zannakis), of Salisbury Township; grandsons, Peter G. and Konstantine G., both of Salisbury Township; brother, Charlabros and his wife Fotini, of Greece; sister-in-law, Lou Economos of Maryland and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, George P. on June 19, 2003.

Contributions may be made to the building fund of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the building fund of St. George Syrian Orthodox Church.

Funeral arrangements were made by the John F. Herron Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
