Sicinski, Ceh medal at states
At the District 11 Swimming Championships, Megan Sicinski and Matt Ceh were named the women’s and men’s swimmers of the meet and were given the Dennis A. McGinley Award for their accomplishments. They capped that off with medals at the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships last week at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.
Megan Sicinski finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.37. She also competed in the 200 IM, reaching the consolation finals and finishing 15th with a time of 2:06.16 at Bucknell.
For Ceh, his state medal came when he finished sixth in the 50 freestyle in a tightly knotted group of top finishers. While Ceh was sixth with a time of 20.86 seconds, he came in just under a second behind Mason Gonzalez of North Allegheny, who took gold in the event. Ceh also competed in a second event, finishing 16th in the 100 freestyle.
Many of Parkland’s swimmers finished in the top 16 in morning preliminaries at states to reach the afternoon and evening finals or consolation finals and secure points for their team.
Ally Lin had two solid swims to finish 10th in the 500 freestyle at 5:01.61 and then take 11th place in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:05.45 in both the preliminaries and the finals of that event. Parkland excelled in the 200 IM with Lin and Sicinski posting good times and Courtney Sicinski finishing 14th, just ahead of her twin sister with a time of 2:07.16.
Sophomore Annie Walls finished 15th in the 100 butterfly, posting a 57.45 seconds and finishing just .06 seconds behind Lauren Dicamillo of Coatesville High School. Walls also teamed with Lin, a junior, and seniors Zoe Sheridan and Grace Kennedy on the 200-freestyle relay team that placed 16th.
As usual, Parkland had an impressive showing in diving. Sophomores Alexa Brinker and Lexi Lehman finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Brinker fell just shy of moving up to seventh, finishing .40 points behind Downingtown’s Sara Haggerty. Another young diver, freshman Logan Choma followed up his strong EPC and District 11 meets with an eighth place finish at states, posting a score of 435.60 off the boards at Bucknell.
In the team competition, the Parkland girls placed 11th out of 56 teams with 72 points and the boys were 27th out of 58 teams with 25 points. North Penn won the girls competition with 258 points and North Allegheny ran away with the boys team gold with a score of 301.
