Liberty’s boys’ tennis team opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Stroudsburg on Monday at Liberty.
Louis Gruber won 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles, David Lynn won 6-0, 6-2 at number two singles, and Gavin Snyder won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles.
Snyder, who played doubles last year, is happy to be playing singles this year.
“It’s relieving. It was my goal since freshman year to get a singles spot,” Snyder said. “It’s something new. I haven’t played singles in awhile. I’m used to doubles, so it’s something to get used to.
“I think my consistency is a good strength. I can keep the ball in play. Right now, I’m just trying to get more power.”
Jacob Wong and Anthony Ronca won at two doubles 6-2, 6-4, and Marc Burritt and Duke Jin won at three doubles 6-3, 6-1.
At four doubles, Man Nyugen and Stephen Trempel lost 4-6, 3-6.
The Hurricanes are hoping for another successful season after last season’s record of 17-1.
“We lost a few good people but I still think we can get to states if we really try hard,” said Snyder.
