Stephen C. “Steve” Moyer
Stephen C. “Steve” Moyer, 57, of Bath, died unexpectedly March 1, 2018, while on a business trip to Phoenix, Ariz., to meet with major league baseball teams currently engaged in spring training. He was an avid baseball and football fan, and involved with statistical/analytical baseball for the major portion of his life. He began his career with STATS, Inc. in Skokie, Ill., and was later affiliated with other analytical companies, including directing the operations for Baseball Info Solutions in Coplay.
He was currently vice president in charge of sales for Yakkertech Sports Performance Systems, a company that has developed and is marketing a machine that analyzes a pitched baseball.
He was the author of several articles related to baseball statistics for sports media, including The Wall Street Journal. Interested and active in Fantasy Baseball and Football, he was a successful and well-liked authority on the subject and a founding member of several leagues.
He was a graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1978, and received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Moravian College, Class of 1982.
He was talented in music, having taken piano lessons for several years, and playing trumpet in the junior and senior high bands. He was a self-taught bass player, playing bass guitar and singing with several country western and rock bands.
He was an active member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, serving on the choir in the past, and currently with the bands, the hand bell choir, as a teacher in the adult Sunday sschool class and as a Lutheran Council and JBCC member. He was a camper on JWS’s original church camp and a staff member since 1970.
He is survived by his parents, Sylvia and Neil Moyer, beloved daughters, Harmony and Mary, brother, Dr. Anthony Moyer, former wife Michelle, and current fiancee, Rev. Samantha Drennan.
