Bettyjane “BJ” Steiner, 90, died March 1, 2018, in her Allentown home.
The daughter of Raymond and Violeta Kistler Jones, she grew up on a farm near Lynnport.
She graduated from Slatington High School, Albright College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Her professional life reflected her many varied interests.
She was a women’s sportswear buyer for Hess’s Department Store, Allentown, taught life sciences in Somerset Area Junior High School, and chemistry at Minersville High School.
She finished her education career as a science and math curriculum development specialist at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit.
After retirement, she worked part time as a travel agent.
In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, skiing, playing golf and duplicate bridge, attending the Metropolitan Opera, and throwing elaborate dinner parties for family and friends.
Her survivors include a daughter Karen Steiner and son-in-law Scott Smith of Arlington, Mass., and sister Violet Deibert of Allentown.
A private memorial reception will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Allentown Symphony (millersymphonyhall.org) or to the Anthracite Symphony (antphil.org).
