James A. Coombe

James A. Coombe, 82, from Northampton, formerly of Whitehall, died peacefully Feb. 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving and dedicated family.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Harry and Daisy (Frankenfield) Coombe,

He and his wife, Sylvia C. (Cappellini) Coombe, were married 60 years.

A very dedicated member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, he was a lector, Eucharistic minister, member of the finance committee, and was a mainstay at the monthly breakfasts and church festivals for many years.

He proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.

He attended Lafayette College and Kutztown University, and was a longtime partner of ABE Car Care Center, Allentown, for more than 26 years until retiring.

Earlier in life, he worked for Sears Roebuck and Co.

He served on the board of the Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority, Whitehall-Coplay School Authority and Willow Green Condominium Association.

He was a member of Jordan Lodge 673 F&AM, Fullerton Fire Co. No. 1, and Fullerton American Legion Post 367.

An avid sports fan, he played many sports in high school and college.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Tina Joncas and husband, Todd, of New Hampshire, Tammy Kellar and husband, Buddy, of Allentown; grandchildren Jenna Anthony and husband, Adam, Brittany Jones, Jordan Joncas and Michael Kellar; great-grandchildren Gabriella and Landon; sister-in-law Jean Coombe; nieces; nephews; and extended family.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church, 618 Fullerton Ave. Whitehall, PA 18052 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were made by Gilbert Funeral Home Inc., Whitehall.
