LHS girls beat Pates
Liberty’s girls’ swim team won its last regular season meet last Thursday against Freedom 105-70 at Freedom.
“I love this team. It’s my family. I’ve spent so much time with them and I knew it had to come to an end but it was all worth it, and I think a lot of people had great seasons,” said Liberty senior Anna Lehr. “Being captain this year, getting to experience it from a different point of view, I loved watching the girls and growing with them.”
Lehr, Natalie Richardson, Sabrina Krotzer, and Abby Mack opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.29.
Theresa Cazarrubias won the 200 free in 2:14.89 for the Hurricanes, and Abby Burnette won the 200 IM in 2:25.18 for the Patriots.
Kendra Smith won the 50 free in 26.54, followed by Krotzer who was second and Emma Reilly who was third, all for Liberty.
Fallon Tatlow took first place in diving for the Patriots with a score of 214.16.
Taylor came in first in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.25, and Smith won the 100 free in 58.49, followed by Kay Wetmore and Greta Stuckey.
Cazarrubias placed first in the 500 free in 6:03.80.
Taylor, Krotzer, Stuckey, and Smith then teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:46.43.
Lehr won the 100 backstroke, a new event for the Hurricane senior this year.
“It’s my first year being really competitive in it. It’s a lot more sprint and technique stuff,” Lehr said. “The 200 free, I’ve been swimming that four years. Nothing really knew for me ... but I learned a new technique for it, so I’m really excited for districts and taper.”
Burnette took first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.20.
In the 400 free relay, Burnette, Sage Hillier, Hallie Smith, and Linda Mao came in first for Freedom in 4:23.29.
