Bethlehem Catholic boys and girls basketball programs will be looking to repeat as champions when the District 11 tournament gets underway this week.

Both the boys and girls are the top seeds in their 4A brackets and are favored to win both classes.

The boys open up the tournament on Friday at Allen against eighth-seeded Octorara at 7:30 p.m. The Hawks don’t have a real formidable opponent in the 4A bracket and should be a lock to win districts, barring a catastrophe.

The girls have a first round bye and will wait until February 28 to take on either fourth-seeded Lehighton or fifth-seeded Blue Mountain in the semifinals.

The girls could have a rematch of the EPC title game in the district finals against third-seeded Central Catholic if the Vikettes can work through the bottom bracket and second-seeded Northwestern.

Freedom’s girls and Liberty’s boys will also be in the 6A postseason, as the second-seeded Patriots take on seventh-seeded Northampton Thursday at Catasauqua.

Liberty comes in as the ninth-seed and travels to eighth-seeded Nazareth on Wednesday night in the first round of the boys tournament.

The winner of that game moves on to Saturday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded East Stroudsburg South at 7 p.m. in Pleasant Valley.
