The 2017 top male and female Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athletes will be announced during the annual awards banquet on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave., Northampton.

The winners will come from the 44 schools which nominated their top male and female players.

Also, longtime soccer referee and assignor, Harold Grahn, will be inducted into the Lehigh Valley Soccer Hall of Fame.

The keynote speaker will be Rob Berkowitz, head men’s and women’s coach at East Stroudsburg University. Tickets, $30, are still available, dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Contact Carol Golden, gardenercg@yahoo.com for more information.

Bethlehem Catholic

Sara Bauman, daughter of Hank and Sharon Bauman, competes in basketball, track and played with Bethlehem Soccer Club. She participates in National Honor Society and student government and plans to study government and go to law school.

Andrew Thomas, son of Joyce and A.J. Thomas, was a four-year player and captain and participated in the Blue Mountain Youth Soccer League. He participates in National Honor Society, is vice president of Peer Listening, member of Key Club and Mini Thon. He plans to study accounting.

Freedom

Amber Buck is the daughter of Maria and Kevin Buck. She’s a four-year varsity player and senior captain who also played for FC Pocono and LVU. She plans to study physical therapy.

Andrew Youwakim is the son of Catarina Youwakim. He’s a three-year varsity player and second team all conference. He also played for LVC. He’s a member of National Honor Society, is school board student representative and class president. He plans to attend MIT to study chemical engineering.

Liberty

Sara Ebersole is the daughter of Jim and Kari Ebersole. She’s a three-year varsity player, senior captain and played with Bath East Allen Soccer and the Bethlehem Soccer Club. She’s a member of the National Honor Society and plans to study psychology at Millersville.

Safa Turkdonmez is the son of Hasan and Semra. He’s a two year varsity player and third team all-conference. He played with Bethlehem Soccer Club and Bethlehem United and is a member of student council. He plans to study computer engineering.

Moravian Academy

Caroline Joseph is the daughter of Christine and Michael. She’s a four-year varsity player and two-year captain and first team all-league. She also plays basketball. She’s an MA ambassador, class president and member of prom committee. She plans to study animal sciences.

Daniel Elmi is the son of Aram and Farhad. He’s a four-year varsity player and first team all-league and also plays tennis. She’s a member of the orchestra and the Jewish Heritage Club treasurer. He plans to study aerospace engineering.

Notre Dame GP

Erika Antunes is the daughter of Victor and Maria Antunes. She’s a four-year varsity player, captain and was second-team all-league. She’s also a member of Lehigh Valley Magic, LVU and FC Europa. She plans to study biomedical engineering at Elizabethtown College.

Kaiden Chinchar is the son of Keith and Stephanie Chinchar. He’s a four-year varsity player, two-year captain and was all-league. He also played for Lehigh Valley Magic, Western Lehigh FC and Reading Rage. He plans to study environmental science.

Catasauqua

Madison Emery is the daughter of Greg and Dawn Emery. She’s a three-year varsity player and was named second team all-league. She participates in travel soccer, basketball and track. She’s a member of student council as secretary and is the Varsity “C” Club’s treasurer. She plans to attend a four-year college.

Steven Ritter is the son of Cathy and Stevan Ritter. He’s a three-year varsity player and played in the Bethlehem and Tri-Boro soccer clubs. He also takes part in cross country, basketball and baseball. He plans to be come a pharmacist.

Northampton

Autumn Van Horn is the daughter of Jeff and Aucara. She’s a two-year varsity player and member of the National Honor Society. She plans to study business.

Nicholas Hanna is the son of Kamar and Rana Hanna. He’s a two-year varsity player and captain and played with Tri Boro and Bath-East Allen soccer. She plans to study nursing at Temple University.

Whitehall

Kassidy Cunningham is the daughter of Tim and Tammi. She’s a four-year varsity player and played with Western Lehigh LVU and also plays field hockey. She’s a National Honor Society member and plans to study business.

Joseph Hana is the son of Elian and Rita Hana. He’s a two-year varsity player, captain and also played with Western Lehigh. He’s a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society. He plans to study speech.
