Shirley M. Arner, 79, from New Tripoli, died on Jan. 3, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

She and her husband William O. Arner were married 55 years last March 24.

Born Sept. 9, 1938, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Francis D. and Mae E. (Kressly) Longacre.

A food service worker at Northwestern Lehigh High School for 26 years, she retired in 1996.

She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg Township, and Goodwill Fire Co. No. 1, Germansville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Diane L. Arner of New Tripoli; siblings Marie A. Weaver of Easton, Burdell B. Longacre of Phillipsburg, N.J., Barbara J. Perrine of Bangor, Janice M. Reed of Bath, Sandra L. Gunderman of Phillipsburg, N.J.; grandchildren Melissa Schnyder, Abbey Grozier-Schnyder and Tyler Motzkus; and great-grandchildren Kora and Jude.

She was predeceased by a son, Randy S. Schnyder, and a brother, Sherwood D. Longacre.
