Coplay swears in council incumbents
At Coplay Borough Council’s reorganization meeting Jan. 2, Mayor Dean Molitoris had a swearing-in ceremony for elected board members. Someone attending the new 97th council meeting will not notice any big difference from prior years. All the councilmen sworn in were incumbents.
Councilmen Louis Bodish, Stephen Burker, Carl Luckenbach and Charles Sodl were sworn in during council’s opening ceremony. Michael Dee, chief of staff for newly elected state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, attended the swearing-in ceremony and delivered congratulations from McNeill.
Committee assignments remain the same for members of council.
Reorganization day allows the borough to look at its existing staff and support personnel. There were no changes. Sandra Gyecsek continues to hold the dual positions of borough secretary and treasurer. James Preston will be the lead solicitor. Vincent Genovese will continue as police chief and Matthew Buskaritz as fire chief. Joseph Gill continues as the health inspector, and Jeffry Deutsch will continue as tax collector.
Council elected officers by unanimous vote. Bodish will continue to serve as president of council, and David Royer will continue as vice president. Luckenbach is the pro tem of council, although the duties were not defined.
Council meetings will continue to be held 7 p.m. There will be a workshop session the first Tuesday of the month, and the second Tuesday will be a voting meeting. The first regular meeting of the year was scheduled for Jan. 9.
