Outgoing county commissioners are honored

Lehigh County Board of Commissioners President Marty Nothstein presented farewell plaques to outgoing Commissioners Thomas Creighton, David Jones and Michael Schware at the close of the meeting Dec. 20, 2017.

Creighton represented District 1, serving residents of Coplay and Slatington boroughs and Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn, North Whitehall, Washington, Weisenberg and Whitehall townships.

Marc Grammes won the seat in the November election, defeating Bob Elbich.

Lehigh County commissioners also adopted a work agreement with the Pennsylvania Social Services Union Local 668. Edwin Rodriquez, Children and Youth case worker supervisor, spoke briefly to commissioners and encouraged them to visit with members of the union, have informal chats to learn more about what the social services workers are doing and hear more about the “challenges we face.”

Commissioner Brad Osborne thanked Rodriquez for his professional demeanor and conduct during the presentation.

Also at the meeting, commissioners approved a stormwater management plan for the Monocacy Creek watershed.

They also approved the appointment of Gabriel Kleis to the Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Advisory Board.

In other business, commissioners listened to the first reading of bills and gave their preliminary approval. The bills will be approved at the next regular meeting, set for Jan. 10.

Among the pending motions, resolutions and bills presented were mostly professional services agreements with various vendors.
