Donald W. Shive, 75, of Upper Macungie Township, died on Dec. 20, 2017, in his home after braving acute myeloid leukemia for 15 months.
He and his wife, Louise E. (Snyder), celebrated their 47th anniversary.
Born in Hanover, he was a son of the late Theodore J. and Irene A. (Albright) Shive.
A Penn State graduate, he received his doctorate in chemistry from MIT and taught at Muhlenberg College for 46 years, always an inspiring positive influence on students and colleagues.
He was an avid gardener, a tireless genealogical researcher and a collector of stamps and botanical prints.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Benjamin S. and wife, Lauren C., of Lansdale, and David Jonathan of Allentown; grandchildren Corey, Zachary, Logan and Mackenzie; brother Gary and wife, Donna of Seven Valleys, York County; sisters Jean Wetzel and Linda of York.
He was predeceased by his brother Clyde.
Services will be 2 p.m. Jan. 20 in Egner Chapel, Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew St. Allentown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the REBCS Endowment, 2400 Chew St. Allentown PA 18104.
