Izola Thomas, 69, of Allentown, formerly of New Orleans, La., died Dec. 1, 2017.

She was the widow of Melvin Thomas Sr.

Born in New Orleans, she was a daughter of the late Freddie and Estelle Green.

A certified nursing assistant in New Orleans, she retired after 20 years of service.

In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, along with several members of her family, she relocated to Allentown.

She was a devoted wife and mother and loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her survivors include daughters Laura, Lynnette and Wanette Thomas; son, the Rev. Melvin Thomas Jr. and his wife Joan Thomas; stepson Terrence Joseph; god- daughter, Jocole Rogers; former daughter-in-law, Amy Keller Thomas; grandchildren Alexuss, Mel, Kentricca, Diamante, Calnisha, Kobe, Lauren, Tatiyana, Jacklyn, Savannae, and Nathaniel Thomas, and Francesca and Gabrielle Rhoads; great-granddaughters Amoni and Ivelisse; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 410 W. Union St., Allentown, with Pastor Thomas E. Sweatt officiating.
