Student presents research poster

Geisinger

Katherine Chung of Breinigsville and six other members of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s Class of 2019, Scranton, conducted research that was selected for a poster presentation at the American Academy of Family Physicians National Conference June 27-29 in Kansas City, Mo.

The conference was attended by family medicine physicians, residents and medical students.

The AAFP poster contest had four categories: research, clinical inquiry, community project and educational program.

The Geisinger Commonwealth students’ poster was chosen in the category of “community project.”

The selected poster, entitled Assessment of Patient Transportation as a Determinant of Appointment Attendance at the Susquehanna Community Health and Dental Center, was prepared as part of the students’ Community Health Research Project, required of all medical students at Geisinger Commonwealth.

The students’ project assessed the effect of transportation on patient no-show rates at a health center serving an uninsured population, many of whom do not have reliable transportation, thus affecting their access to adequate health care.
