The following students were recently welcomed into the Class of 2021 at Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre.
Allentown: Justin Burda, mechanical engineering major; Hannah Fritz, Riley Smith and Mackenzie Wieand; all pre-pharmacy majors;
Breinigsville: Matthew Driscoll, mechanical engineering major, and Drew James, undeclared major;
Fogelsville: Nicholas Stoeckel, science major;
Kutztown: Jack Bortz, environmental engineering major; and
New Tripoli: Alexander Smith, undeclared major.
In addition, Harrison Eckert of Orefield, was one of eight students named to the Guthrie Clinical Scholar program at Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre.
Eckert is a biology and Spanish major.
The Guthrie Scholars program is designed to give qualified students at Wilkes University, who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine the opportunity to earn 15 credits while gaining firsthand knowledge of the life of a physician.
Eckert will complete his clinical semester in fall 2018.
The selected students participate in a research project, attend medical and surgical grand rounds and teaching rounds, hear lectures, and shadow physicians, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, allied health care providers and administrators.
They also spend one week in a Guthrie regional clinic, two days with Guthrie Hospice and Guthrie Home Health care, a day with the Greater Valley Ambulance Service and a day with the Guthrie Air Flight Team.
The program is offered by the Guthrie nonprofit integrated health system that is located in north central Pennsylvania and upstate New York.
Applicants must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and have shadowing and community service experience.
Wilkes University had summer commencement Sept. 10 in the Henry Gymnasium of the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center, Wilkes-Barre.
The following students received a Master of Science degrees in education.
Allentown: Dawn Burke, Katherine Cameron and John Greth; and
Schnecksville: Eric Zuber.
In addition, the following students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester.
