Domino’s presents check for plaza

At an Oct. 18 event, the Domino’s location at 971 Main St., Northampton, presented Coplay Councilmen Steve Burker and Charles Sodl a check for nearly $2,500 to support projects at the borough’s Community Plaza.

“This is part of our co-op program that the planning committee and the recreation committee put together,” Burker said.

Under the program, the borough helps support local businesses with advertising inserts. In return for the advertising, the local business donates a portion of the proceeds to the borough.

“This is neighbors helping neighbors,” Burker said. “With the bridge out, we wanted to help out some of the businesses in Northampton that serve our residents. Domino’s offered to participate with us.”

Doug Yocum, Domino’s manager, was happy with the results.

“We got to meet a few new customers in Coplay, and the program increased our business. Domino’s always looks forward to programs where we can help our neighborhood,” he said.

Coplay’s Community Plaza has been the focus of improvements during the past year. A gazebo was placed on the formerly vacant parcel in time for Christmas last year. This year, the borough sponsored local musicians for free concerts.

More enhancements are also planned.

“It makes our borough a better place to live,” Sodl said. “We have new borough projects coming up that will continue to improve our quality of life.”
