Richard A. Hahn

Retired Allentown Police Sgt. Richard A. “Dick” Hahn of Coplay, formerly of Allentown and Emmaus died peacefully Nov. 11, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family.

The loving husband of Dolores M. “Dolly” (Billie) Hahn, they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 6.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Allen and Anna (Urban) Hahn.

After graduation from Emmaus High School in 1959, he enlisted in the Navy, serving on the USS John W. Weeks during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Proud of his military service, he was a member of American Legion Charles Henry Schaeffer Post 191, Emmaus, and American Legion Howard L. Peter Post 576, Allentown.

Very proud of his 25 years of dedicated service with the Allentown Police Department, he served as a motorcycle police officer for 17 years before attaining the rank of sergeant in 1982, and retiring in 1990.

He was a member and past president of Liberty Fire Company No. 5, Allentown; life member of both the Emmaus Fire Company No. 3 and the Emmaus 4th Alarmers Club; and member of the Unami Fish and Game Association, Ranger Rod and Gun Club and the Mercantile Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Kimberly A. Hahn of Allentown, Richard A. II and his wife, Donna, of Macungie, Tracy C., wife of Douglas J. Lloyd, of Coplay; brother Donald U. Hahn and his wife, Janet, of Florida; treasured grandsons Bradlee, Douglas C., Jesse, Shane; seven nephews; and three nieces.

He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Mess.

His memorial service will be 2 p.m. Nov. 18 in J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton Sts., Allentown.

Call 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002 or to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2024 Lehigh St., Suite 100, Allentown, PA 18103.
