Kids look for offense

“We’re looking for the perfect shot.”

The Northampton boys’ soccer team has put together a series of strong defensive performances against the top teams in the East Penn Conference, but according to head coach Adam Bastidas, the K-Kids need to generate a lot more offense.

Northampton fell to Whitehall 3-1 on Oct. 2 to drop to 4-8-1 on the season. Junior Camerone Giancaterino scored the lone goal for the K-Kids.

Similar to performances against Emmaus and East Stroudsburg South in the previous week, Bastidas felt that his Northampton squad played the opponent evenly for much of the game. The Zephyrs outshot the K-Kids 14-9, but Northampton had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Brady Rimple and the K-Kids’ defense has performed admirably over the last two weeks. Despite a 2-4 record over that span, Northampton has not allowed more than three goals over its last six matches. Emmaus, which has scored five or more goals four times this season, was held to just two against Northampton.

Rimple recorded 11 saves against the Zephyrs and drew the praise of Coach Bastidas after the game.

Northampton returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6 against Central Catholic and Saturday, Oct. 7 against Southern Lehigh.
