K-Kids prep for LHS
Playoff implications will be on the line Saturday night when Northampton travels to Bethlehem Area School District Stadium to take on Liberty.
Both teams enter the contest at 2-4 and a win by the Kids would certainly boost their chances of moving up the District 11 power ratings, as Liberty currently sits in seventh place and Northampton is holed up in the 10th spot behind Pocono Mountain East (3-3) and Pocono Mountain West (2-4).
After getting knocked off by Nazareth last week 48-13, the Kids need to pick up the pieces after
witnessing Blue Eagle wide receiver Jahan Dotson haul in six catches for 103 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with a 77-yard punt return for a score.
Liberty is coming off a 35-7 win over Dieruff, ending a four-game skid for the Hurricanes, as they look to make a turnaround in the second half of this season as well.
“Liberty has a strong defensive front and sold running game on offense lead by [running back] Nasir Legree,” said Kids head coach Mark Scisly. “Legree is the key to the offense. We have to stop him first.”
Legree is one of the best backs in the league, amassing 793 yards and nine touchdowns through six games. He’s the most potent threat Liberty has on offense since quarterback Todd Erney went down with a shoulder injury in week four against Whitehall.
The Kids had one of their best performances of the season the last time they were at BASD, falling to Freedom 26-13.
They hope they can get themselves in playoff contention with a win this week.
“On offense we need to control the clock on offense and be more consistent moving the ball,” Scisly said. “On defense we need to stop their running game.”
