Clair D. Hunsberger
Clair D. Hunsberger, 86, of Fullerton, Whitehall Township, died suddenly Sept. 27, 2017, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, surrounded by his loving and dedicated family.
He and his wife Louise M. “Mary Lou” (Zondlo) Hunsberger were married 55 years at the time of her death in 2010.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Franklin and Pearl (Diehl) Hunsberger.
A devoted member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, he was a longtime member of the Golden Agers.
A very proud Army veteran of the Korean Conflict with the 82nd Airborne Division, he earned two Bronze Stars and the rank of corporal.
He returned home to become a member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367, and later was a past commander, attending many state Legion events.
A machinist mechanic at the former Tarkett, Whitehall, for almost 48 years, he was a past president and board member of the Tarkett Federal Credit Union, known as TWE.
He was a past president of the Whitehall Democratic Club, state committeeman, past president of the board of commissioners for the Township of Whitehall, and was a founding member and past board member of the Fullerton Memorial Playground and Athletic Association.
A member of Whitehall Lions Club, he helped establish the former Whitehall Emergency Squad and served as a reserve policeman in Whitehall.
His survivors include a son Ronald C. of Whitehall; daughters Michelle M. Evans of Whitehall and Claire L. Swartwood of Germansville; five grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and sisters Thelma, Lorraine, Loretta and Goldie.
Hr was predeceased by a sister Doris and brother Edward.
