Hurricanes aiming for momentum

Momentum is something that Liberty’s field hockey team is hoping they can continue heading into this week.

After losing to Emmaus 12-0 on September 12, the Hurricanes have won five out of their last six matches heading into Monday’s 8-0 victory over Whitehall and hope that trend continues into this week’s slate of games.

After losing to Pocono Mountain East 1-0 last week, Liberty answered with a 1-0 win over Parkland and a 5-3 victory at Nazareth.

“Both of those wins were good momentum going into this week,” said head coach Mary Kate Omdahl. “We continue to work on being strong for 60 minutes and our conditioning has been forefront in our minds, especially with the unusually hot weather we have been having.”

Conditioning is something Liberty will need to keep up as the final weeks of the regular season wind down. The Hurricanes (6-2) are backed up with a few postponements and have 10 games left on the schedule over the next two and a half weeks of the season, including games against Bethlehem Catholic and Pleasant Valley this week.

“The rest of our schedule is packed with games and we need to use our depth of bench to help us play with an upbeat tempo,” Omdahl said. “I thought we played a high tempo game against Parkland and would like to use that as a point to go forward.”

Freedom (3-7) snapped a four game losing streak with Monday’s 7-0 win over Pocono Mountain West. However, the Patriots have Pocono Mountain East (7-1-2) and Parkland (5-5-1) this week in a set of tough matchups.

Bethlehem Catholic (2-7) recorded their second win of the season over the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg.

The Hawks lost to Pleasant Valley 4-2 on Monday, but then play three games in three days, starting on Wednesday with Liberty, Dieruff and East Stroudsburg North.
