Pates fall to Central

At halftime during Freedom’s girls’ soccer game against Allentown Central Catholic last Friday, the Patriots talked about being more aggressive towards the ball, and it seemed to be working when Andie Graney scored on an assist by Haley Gschrey to break a 1-1 tie.

The Vikettes responded with a goal of their own, however, forcing the game into overtime which Freedom ultimately lost 3-2.

“It was just a silly mental breakdown that got across and went in,” said Freedom captain Amber Buck. “It was an unfortunate goal, and I think we played better than letting up a goal like that, you know?”

Gschrey scored the Patriots’ first goal on an assist by Lily Judge.

“What [Central] would do is, they would bring the ball out wide, and then they would find their center and try to switch or go back the same way and try to send it through our defense, which, it did make it difficult,” Buck said.

Earlier in the week, Freedom lost to Parkland 5-0.

In other girls’ games, Liberty lost to Pleasant Valley 2-0 but won against East Stroudsburg South 4-1.

Merve Okumus scored two goals, and Katherine Wescoe and Madison Muller scored. Jessica DelCorso, Regan Gunn, and Muller had assists in the game, and Bridget MacDonald made seven saves.

Bethlehem Catholic also defeated East Stroudsburg South 6-2.

Brooke Bisko and Sarah Knoble scored two goals apiece, and Magdala deSantis and Mary Kate O’Reilly scored one each. Bisko and deSantis had two assists, and O’Reilly had one assist. Ellie Freiss made seven saves.

In boys’ soccer, Freedom lost to Allentown Central Catholic 1-0, Liberty played to a 0-0 tie against Pleasant Valley, and Becahi defeated Pocono Mountain West 8-3.
