You can say that the start to Liberty’s field hockey season has been challenging to say the least.
The Hurricanes had their first two games postponed and had to endure a 12-0 loss to Emmaus last week.
They followed that up with a 13-0 shutout over Pocono Mountain West and a 7-0 win over Freedom last Saturday.
But then they fell to Pocono Mountain East 1-0 on Monday, leaving the team still looking for the right answers.
“I feel we are still trying to find the flow of playing together,” said head coach Mary Kate Omdahl. “With our first two games postponed, we were at a bit of a disadvantage of not having played as much together as some of the other teams.”
Some of that may have showed in their loss to Emmaus, a stinging defeat that left the team having to answer internal questions.
“We had a meeting after the loss and we knew that we did not rise to the challenge and play the way we are capable of playing,” said Omdahl. “We definitely did not match the energy that Emmaus brought to the game and after they scored the first few goals, we retreated into ourselves instead of stepping up our game.”
With Parkland (3-4-1) and Nazareth (1-5) left this week, the Hurricanes (3-2) will look to get on track. One player that has paced the Liberty attack, has been Olivia Sahaydak, who has scored 13 goals in fourgames.
Freedom (2-5) and Bethlehem Catholic (1-4) are looking to get some momentum this week too.
The Pates have a rugged slate this week with Easton (5-1) and Emmaus (7-0). Meanwhile, Becahi has Nazareth and Whitehall (2-4).
Freedom lost to Northampton on Monday 7-0, while the Hawks fell to Parkland 4-0.
