Cross country seasons kick off

Moravian Academy’s Lion Invitational saw 24 schools participating in cross country races with 1,075 runners on Sept. 1 at Moravian Academy Upper School.

In Class 1A team results, Moravian Academy’s boys’ and girls’ teams took first place.

Krysta Nichols ran the fastest time for the Lions’ girls in 22:45. Quinn O’Connor, Maddie Tran, Justine Dell, Carley Caruth, and Elizabeth Burke also competed.

Hunter Zahm ran the fastest time for the Lions’ boys in 18:25. Also competing were Dylan Carter, Noah Young, Aaron Salen, Joseph Zaladonis, Mason Tran, and James Foran.

In Class 3A team results, Liberty’s girls placed first led by Belle Weikert with a time of 19:43. Weikert was followed by Greta Stuckey, Grace Haas, Everlyn Sharken, Hannah Graybeal, Cami Bortz, and Rachel Byrne.

Also in Class 3A team results, Liberty’s boys placed fourth led by Casey Frank with a time of 17:43. Frank was followed by Paul Jensen, Ryan Wycherley, Devin Amador, Elden Bergman, and Jack Lewis.

Bethlehem Catholic’s cross country team competed in the Northampton Invitational on Sept. 2.

Becahi’s girls’ team placed sixth overall out of 19 teams.

Lauren Bunke came in first for the Hawks with a time of 19:41, followed by Mary Frances Scheidel, Hope Brown, Solei Rodriguez, Kahli Abrams, Kayla Zigmont, and Jessica Finney.

Becahi’s boys’ team placed 22nd overall out of 27 teams.

Aaron Smith came in first for the Hawks with a time of 17:48, followed by Nick Zambo, Angel Negron, Owen Fitzgerald, Cody Weber, Keith Neidig, and Maanik Singh.

This past Saturday, Freedom’s cross country team competed in the Centaur Invitational at DeSales University.

Kevin Pollock finished first for the Patriot boys with a time of 18:24. Adam Boyer was second for the Patriots, followed by Nick Bauer, John Carlos Sousa, Billy Sweeney, and Josh Konschnik.

For the Patriot girls, Shannon Connelly came in first, followed by Mary Sweeney, Elena Spengler, and Lydia Burnette.

This week will be the start of dual meets for the high school cross country season as Freedom, Becahi, and Liberty travel to Pocono Mountain West, and Moravian Academy travels to Bangor.
