Athletic director, training staff earn award
Whitehall Athletic Director Bob Hartman and the Zephyrs athletic training staff received a national honor at the Sept. 11 meeting of Whitehall-Coplay School Board.
John Hauth, of St. Luke’s University Health Network, presented Hartman and the athletic department with the Safe Sports School Award from the National Athletic Trainer Association.
“It’s really a recognition of what this board, this administration, the coaching staff, the field maintenance crew and equipment managers all do to ensure the safety of the student athletes,” Hauth said.
Whitehall-Coplay School District received two certificates of achievement from NATA and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association. Trainer Sarah Barone received individual recognition.
In other news, school board members participated in the election of Pennsylvania School Boards Association officers for 2018. Board members unanimously supported Arthur Taschler Jr.’s nomination of Otto Voit, from Muhlenberg School District, for president and Eric Wolfgang, from Central York School District, for vice president.
Nicole Huie was introduced as the new elementary music teacher. She is replacing Stephen Reisteter, who retired after 25 years in the district.
Superintendent Dr. Lorie Hackett asked each of the principals in attendance to share something from their first weeks of the school year.
Nathan Davidson, Whitehall High School principal, announced that 300 students and parents attended the new student orientation, which was a significant increase from years past.
Student representatives from the high school’s Student Council and London Club gave a presentation to the board about their summer activities and objectives for the upcoming school year.
A special committee meeting for operations and transportation will take place 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the high school, followed by regularly scheduled committee meetings 4 p.m. Sept. 25.
The next regular meeting of the school board is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 9.
