A Northampton Borough Council committee, charged with reviewing applications of candidates to fill the vacant office of police chief, has whittled down the number of finalists to just two.
At an executive meeting tonight, Sept. 7, prior to the public session of council, the final two candidates will be discussed. The committee has met twice already concerning the appointment. Council is permitted under the state Sunshine Law to discuss personnel matters privately.
Both candidates have law enforcement credentials.
Sgt. Bryan Kadingo was appointed by council last month as acting police chief. He has taken over the helm on a temporary basis following the retirement of police Chief Ron Morey. Morey has taken a deputy position with the Northampton County Sheriff Department and part-time officer position with North Catasauqua Police Department.
Whether council will vote on appointing a police chief this evening or giving the full council additional time to review the qualifications of the two finalists will be made at the meeting.
The salary of the new police chief is expected to be decided when the appointment takes place. The chief is in command of 11 full-time officers and is not part of the union bargaining unit.
