Borghesani waives preliminary hearing; arraignment set for Oct. 9

A former Whitehall High School teacher charged with alleged inappropriate contact with students waived his preliminary hearing Aug. 29.

According to court documents, David Andrew Borghesani’s arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9, before The Honorable Kelly L. Banach, in Lehigh County Court.

As previously reported by The Press, Borghesani, 30, of Northampton, has been charged with one count each of unlawful contact with a minor, a felony of the third degree, and corruption of minors, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

According to reports, on Oct. 10, 2016, Whitehall Township Police Department was contacted by the Whitehall-Coplay School District concerning information received from the parents of a minor student regarding alleged inappropriate contact between their daughter and Borghesani.

Borghesani was a teacher at Whitehall High School at that time. He resigned from his position in March 2017.

Whitehall Township Police Department Detective Jeffrey Bruchak interviewed three possible victims, according to reports. Two students alleged Borghesani and the two of them were in contact via Snapchat.

A third student, a minor at the time, alleged Borghesani sent her nude photos of himself while she was a student at WHS.

After being charged, Borghesani posted bail, 10 percent of the total $15,000, in July.
