The proposed move of the Willow Brook Golf Course clubhouse from North Catasauqua into Allen Township territory required the approval of a liquor license transfer by the township’s board of supervisors.
After a public hearing - requested by The Fuller Family Trust, owners of the golf course and clubhouse land - township supervisors Aug. 22 unanimously granted the request with five votes. There was no opposition to the request when supervisors Chairman Larry Oberly asked those in the audience if they had any comment regarding the transfer of the liquor license.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board still needs to weigh in on The Fuller Family Trust request, which is expected to be just a formality in the approval process.
According to the project plans, an existing L-shaped barn, located in Allen Township, will be converted into the new clubhouse, with seating for 50 patrons inside and 60 outdoors. The 2,000-square-foot barn is now used to board horses during special events.
“It should be very beautiful,” Christopher Lloyd, a Fuller Family Trust trustee, told the board, adding it aligns with the mission to preserve historic aspects of the farm.
The proposed changes will reduce the golf course to nine holes.
The move of the clubhouse and the addition of a pro shop are part of a proposed plan to build 700 homes on property between Willowbrook Road in Allen Township and Howertown Road in North Catasauqua and a small section in Northampton. Bullshead Road is the northern boundary.
Under the present scenario, there would be 500 homes in Allen Township, 67 in Northampton and 153 in North Catasauqua. In Allen Township, near the FedEx Ground warehouse, there would be two- and three-story apartment structures.
