George D. Billig, 85, of New Tripoli, died Aug. 9, 2017, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife Nancy L.(Leiby) Billig celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Aug. 1.
Born in Lynn Township, he was a son of the late Granville A. and Florence L.(Kocher) Billig.
A salesman for Nationwide Insurance Inc. for 41 years before retiring in 1997, he was also a school bus driver for the Northwestern Lehigh School District for 32 years, also retiring in 1997.
He was a 1949 graduate of Slatington High School.
A member of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusalem (Red) Church, Kempton, he served there as a former elder and trustee of the cemetery association.
He was also a member of the Lynnport and New Tripoli fire companies and was a life member and formerly very active in the Kempton Community Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Nancy J., wife of Steven Lashua, of New Tripoli; sons Timothy L. (Theresa) Billig and Dwight D. (Diana) Billig, all of New Tripoli, and Bryan G. Billig of Macungie; brother Russell, husband of Margie Billig of New Tripoli; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
