Young author signs books at market

Rafael Diaz’s creativity on a myriad of topics - some of worlds and experiences that boggle the mind - explodes on the pages of two books the youngster has written, at an age when many are playing video games or surfing the Internet.

During a recent book signing at Northampton Farmers Market, 11-year-old Rafael spoke of his passion for writing and his tales that come from a vivid imagination - of planets, strange disturbances, aliens villains or any kind of life beyond what we know.

Rafael, who resides with his family in Lower Macungie Township, will be in sixth grade at Eyer Middle School. He was at the farmers market signing his two books - the latest, “An Unexpected Adventure,” and the other, “The Inconvenient Surprise.”

Victor Rodite, Northampton Borough planner, whose own creativity brought the farmers market to life, invited Rafael to sign books at Municipal Park. He noted he believes readers will enjoy the youngster’s style of writing.

Rafael’s words explode on the pages of his two books. The soft-spoken author began writing small books when he was only 5 years old; his first big book came at age 10. With support from his family and his former teacher at Willow Lane Elementary, he got the motivation to write his first book. Money from the sales of “The Inconvenient Surprise” helped to pay for the publishing of the second book.

Rafael’s books were sold at Northampton Farmers Market for $6 cost each, or $10 for both, prompting many at the market to have Rafael sign both.

Interested and active in karate, baseball, basketball and other activities, Rafael is already contemplating writing his third and fourth book about some planets rich with water, oil and minerals and one that is dry as a dessert and whose inhabitants have to go to war with the others to survive.
