Elsie Mae Mullin Thomas, of Kirkland Village

Elsie Mae Mullin Thomas, 94, of Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, died July 21, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Bethlehem. She was born in Pottsville. She was the wife of the late Herman Thomas.

She graduated with honors from Vermont College of Norwich University where she earned a bachelor of arts degree. She was a Master Gardener.

She was employed in insurance, fundraising, and customer relations. She was a freelance writer.

She volunteered more than 1,000 hours in the USO during World War II. She volunteered at church, schools and the American Field Service. She planned and supervised the planting and care of shade trees with a local tree commission in Ohio.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Devroye of Summit, N.J. and Elisabeth Thomas-Matej of Shaker Heights, Ohio; a son, David Thomas of Newport, R.I.; and; five grandchildren, Daniel, Anthony, Frankie, Evan and Madelaine; and six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lucas, Oliver, Thomas, Simon and Martin.
