Raymond E. “Ray” Lobus, 79, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Coopersburg, died July 11, 2017, in his home.

He and his wife Carol A. (Polak) Lobus were married 49 years last Sept. 9.

Born Aug. 5, 1937, in Allentown, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Yarema) Lobus.

A 1955 graduate of Allentown High School, he was a summa cum laude graduate of Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, in 1959.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during a peacetime era.

For more than 30 years, he served as vice president and chief auditor for Merchants National Bank and subsequent entities, the last of which was First Fidelity.

After his retirement in 1993, he moved to Virginia Beach in 1998 where he could enjoy his longtime love of gardening and swimming year-round.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Allentown.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kelly Lobus Blanar and her husband, Bruce, of Schnecksville; son Lance Ryan Lobus of Virginia Beach; beloved granddaughter Breanna T. Blanar of Schnecksville; brother Robert J. Lobus and his wife, Mary, of Pine City, N.Y.; sister Joan D. McDonald of Virginia Beach; nieces Stacie Lobus Mallow and husband, Andrew, of Pine City, and Deb McDonald Melcher and her spouse, Ruth, of Eastern Shore, Va.

He was predeceased by a nephew David “Duke” McDonald.

Divine liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. July 21 in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1031 Fullerton Ave., Allentown, with the Very Rev. Anthony Perkins as liturgist.

Family and friends may pay their respects 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville.

Parastas will be 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow the service in the parish cemetery.
