Allen board discusses traffic lights at intersections near FedEx

With the huge FedEx Ground distribution hub construction continuing off Willowbrook Road, including widening parts of the once-rural road and adding large berms alongside it, the matter of traffic lights is now being addressed by Allen Township Board of Supervisors.

The five-member board agreed there are three key intersections on Willowbrook Road that will handle a major hike in vehicle traffic, including trucks, once FedEx is operating.

Township supervisors said lights are to be placed at the Willowbrook Road intersections with West Bullshead Road and Radar Drive and at the FedEx employees’ driveway.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has the final say on the township’s plans for the traffic signals, but the township bears the responsibility for the installation and cost.

Also before the supervisors are plans for retention and infiltration berms at Howertown Park. The berms are required for the pending Route 329 improvements and stormwater controls that must be done prior to construction. The board will gather additional information on the issue before voting on the plan.
