The clock is winding down for the July 19 deadline for applicants to file resumes for the position of the Borough of Northampton’s police chief. By last weekend, there were only two persons who had filed their resumes with the borough’s administration office.
Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst told The Press before the weekend more applicants are expected to come forward with resumes. It is not clear whether any of the 11 officers on the borough police force will seek the police chief’s position.
Police Chief Ron Morey has 33 years with the police department, beginning as a patrol officer. He rose through the ranks to become the borough’s chief law enforcement officer.
Brobst said he will bring to the borough council meeting July 20 the list of candidates for the position. He said council will review the resumes and can be expected to make the appointment at the Aug. 17 meeting.
Although the borough council went outside the roster of borough officers for the office of police chief several years back, for the most part, the position has been filled from the present roster of borough officers.
Sgt. B. Kadingo is currently second in command and has been present at council meetings when Morey was not available.
The borough has no position for assistant police chief.
The salary for the police chief has not been set.
