Carnival is back at Egypt park

After a four-decade hiatus, the carnival is returning to Egypt.

Egypt Memorial Park will be hosting a festival benefiting the community’s youth athletic teams July 19-22. Wednesday and Friday are family nights where wristbands for unlimited rides can be purchased for $15.

Carnival organizer Ron Oswald said plans to bring the fair back to Egypt have been in the works for three years. The last time Egypt Memorial Park hosted an event like this was in the late 1970s.

Originally discussed as an addition to the annual Curt Simmons Day festivities, Oswald said the carnival generated enough independent interest to separate itself from the early-June celebration. The carnival is not slated to be an annual event moving forward, but that could certainly change with healthy crowds and good fortune.

Gates will open 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with a 5 p.m. start time on Saturday. The carnival will close 10 p.m. each night.

Nonweiler Amusements will have over a dozen rides set up, including a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and giant slide. Egypt Fire Company will be hosting a dunk tank.

A number of local and national retailers will have booths and products for sale, including LuLaRoe, AVON, Scentsy and Mary Kay. There will be a variety of concession stands with traditional carnival fare and the Geakers Tacos food truck.
