Stanley M. Wieand

Stanley M. “Sno Shoes” Wieand, 85, of Allentown, died on June 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, in his home.

He and his wife Jean S. (Stump) Wieand were married 65 years last Nov. 3.

Born Oct. 23, 1931, in Stiles, Whitehall Township, he was the son of the late Martin C. and Ella H. (DeLong) Wieand.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era and later in the U.S. Army during a peacetime era.

A member of the Telephone Pioneers, he was a millwright at the former Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies, Allentown, for 38 years before retiring in 1989.

He also worked part time for the Whitehall – Coplay School District as sports equipment manager.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where he formerly served on the consistory, sang with the choir and volunteered in the office and kitchen.

He was a member of Jordan Lodge 192, I.O.O.F., Schnecksville, serving as past noble grand, recording secretary and past District 7 deputy grand master.

A member of the former Pleasant Corner Encampment 54, he served as a scribe with the organization.

He was an accomplished musician playing with numerous bands in the Lehigh Valley including Tommy Schaeffer, The Tune Dusters, The Happy Yanks, Earl Keller and the Blue Gems for more than 40 years.

He was a life member of the Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville, and a member of TPA, Community Fire Company No. 1, Schnecksville, and the American Legion Post 66, Maryland.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children, Terrence S.M. Wieand (Leah) of Harleysville, Kay E. Wieand of Whitehall, Mark D. Wieand (Carla) of Schnecksville, Jason E. Wieand (Michele) of Schnecksville; siblings Betty L. McGee (Joel) and Donald R. Wieand, both of Allentown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister Althea M. Best and brothers Dennis, Willard and Dale.
