Farmers market kicks off 10th season in Bath
On May 19, Sarah Fulton opened the 10th season for Bath Farmers Market, Green Street and Route 329.
“We have a couple of exciting new vendors this year. We have Cool Treats, an ice cream vendor, and Atomic Hogs is here with a smoker,” she said. “Plus, we have farmers who returned from last year. It’s a great place to buy local and support our community.”
Relaxed licensing laws allow Weyerbacher Brewing to set up shop.
“You can come down every Friday until Sept. 29. Grab some barbecue, a beer and have dessert,” Fulton said.
The market opens 3 p.m. and closes 7 p.m.
The full list of vendors includes Atomic Hogs, ribs, chicken and brisket; Annarella’s Bakery, homemade biscotti; Cattle Creek Farms, locally raised beef and pork; Cool Treats, homemade soft-serve ice cream; Covered Bridge Farm, whole range of fresh farm-raised vegetables; Leigh’s Jams, Jellies, Soaps & Goodies, also including lotions; Nana’s Fresh Baked Goods, homemade pies, cinnamon buns and breads; Peanut Butter and More, gourmet, natural nut butters and pretzels; Stehly’s Bakery & Eatery, pies, kiffles and pastries; The Popcorn Pit, kettlecorn, popcorn and nuts; Twin Maple Farms, produce; Warm Sugar Bakery, cupcakes and Danish pastries; and Weyerbacher Brewing, craft beer.
Leigh Pollari, of Leigh’s Jams, Jellies, Soaps & Goodies, crafted some unique flavors to sample.
“The garlic spread goes well when you’re cooking; it adds a great flavor,” she said.
Her assortment includes a great triple berry jam along with some local honey. This is Pollari’s fourth year at the market.
Laura Kotran, of Warm Sugar Bakery, will bake to order, which is a step above the local superstore.
The mother and daughter team of Kelly and Amy Hower had fresh herbs at the Covered Bridge Farm booth.
“We grow these from seed and then put them in a high tunnel, so we can get something for opening day. As the season progresses, we will be bringing in our just-picked fresh produce,” Kelly said.
The farm is in Kreidersville next to - you guessed it - the covered bridge.
Jon Fehnel, of Cattle Creek Farms, has beef and pork.
“We raise everything at our farm and then we send it out for processing; that way, we get it USDA inspected and approved,” he said.
Annarella’s Bakery is Ann Giudice-Squires’ first adventure. She has more types of biscotti than you can think of. Her Italian heritage and strong love of baking helped her cook up this adventure.
“I’m excited about starting this venture and working at the farmers market,” she said.
Harold Wentz and his son Alex had the smoker fired up.
“We had a great time at Suds and Spuds in Nazareth, so we wanted to come back to the area,” Harold said.
The duo has a great selection of smoked meats. Ribs, chicken, brisket and sides compete for the spotlight. The smoker is huge!
