Tanczos takes third
Bethlehem Catholic thrower Rachel Tanczos won a third place state medal in discus at the PIAA State Class 3A Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Shippensburg University.
“I was thinking it would be nice to get in the 140’s, but I was happy,” Tanczos said. “It was a little tricky because it was raining, and we had to wipe our feet off before every throw, but it was something we all had to work against.”
Tanczos threw a 138-7 at states and a 144-9 at districts.
“I was feeling good at states. It was so exciting with a lot of people, and there was a lot of adrenaline, and that helped a lot,” she said.
Tanczos’s medal-winning performance scored so many points that it put Becahi’s team score ahead of teams from the East Penn Conference except Parkland and Pocono Mountain East.
“Yes, that was really cool to earn Beca that many points,” said Tanczos.
Madison King from Red Lion took first place in the discus with a throw of 141-3.
Liberty senior Jackie Arthur placed 12th in the same event with a 119-0.
The day before, Tanczos set a new school record in the shot put with a distance of 36-11.
“That was pretty much my goal the whole weekend because I was so close,” Tanczos said. “I got that one on my first throw.”
Arthur placed 25th in shot put with a 33-0.25.
In the javelin, Arthur was 23rd with a 114-9, and Becahi senior Tessa Zamolyi placed 25th with a 114-1.
Liberty’s Grace Mittl placed 19th in the triple jump with a jump of 34-10.5.
