Freedom High School jumper Madison McTier won the silver medal in the triple jump at the District XI Class 3A Track and Field Championships which were held last Tuesday and Wednesday at Blue Mountain High School.
“I was nervous because I wanted to go to states. It feels pretty good. I practiced a lot every day,” McTier said.
McTier’s jump measured 36-07.
“It was on my first jump, actually,” she said. “I’m going to try to move back to the 36 board [for states]. Right now, I’m at the 32.”
Liberty jumper Grace Mittl won a silver medal in the long jump.
“I felt pretty confident coming in, but it’s pretty hot, and I’m a little gassed out, so I just wanted to lay one good jump,” Mittl said. “My biggest struggle this season was my landing and collapsing at the right level because my height was there. I think I bounced back.”
Mittl also placed third in the triple jump.
“It was a great two days,” she said.
Bethlehem Catholic jumper Liz Lieb placed fourth in the long jump with a 17-04.
Liberty senior Darian Street won the silver medal in the long jump with a measurement of 23-02.50.
Trevor Joseph, also from Liberty, won a bronze medal in the pole vault with a height of 13-03.
