Trevor Connors took the mound in the home opener for the Bethlehem Steel last Thursday night as they faced the Limeport Dodgers. Connors gave up his only hit of the day, an infield single in the first inning to Dodgers outfielder Koenig, but pitched a solid four inning shutout recording five strike outs as the Steel won their first game 15-0.
The Steel jumped ahead in the first with a bases loaded sac fly by second basemen Tanner Smith scoring Mike Newland, who started the action with a line drive single up the middle. Charlie Barebo then cleared the bases with a double to the right field gap. Third base Jason Gonzalez reached on a throwing error by the Dodgers third basemen scoring Barebo from second and the Steel led 4-0 after the first inning and never looked back.
After two innings the score increased to 8-0 Steel.
Catcher Jeff Labarge started the scoring in the second with a leadoff walk followed by four consecutive hits: SS Julian Lopez singled, Newland had an RBI single and Breithaupt followed with an RBI double before DH Brian Ernst had an RBI single.
The Steel tacked on three more in the third inning. CF Barebo led off the fourth with a solo home run to center field increasing the lead to 12-0 after four.
Robby Williams took the mound for the Steel in the top of the fifthth and had a five-pitch inning before the Steel tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the inning extending the lead to 15-0.
The score would remain the same as Brian Ernst took the mound in the sixth and seventh inning recording all six outs by strike out.
