Bethlehem Catholic looks for district run

A district championship run could be in the works for Bethlehem Catholic when they opened the District 11 2A tournament Tuesday against Pottsville (3-7).

With 2A only having four teams in the tournament, Becahi (8-9) and Dock Mennonite (11-7) are primed for a finals clash this week.

“Our knowledge of Pottsville and Dock is enough for us to create a game plan for each team,” said head coach Jeff Koch. “Some of the teams in the Lehigh Valley had the opportunity to play both Pottsville and Dock.

“Our EPC schedule is so competitive that we feel prepared and ready to face anyone out there. Nothing should surprise us at this point in the season so it really comes down to what we have to do on our side, and our in game adjustments.”

Liberty and Freedom both saw their volleyball seasons come to an end in the opening round of district play last week.

The Hurricanes lost to Parkland in a three-game sweep, while Freedom lost in five games to Easton in their opener last week.

Moral victories are never what coaches look to take away from the end of a season, but Liberty’s Neiad Ammary can look back and feel a sense of accomplishment after what his team was able to achieve this year.

“We’re not thrilled with the loss to Parkland and the end to our season,” said Ammary. “However, a realistic analysis of the season has us feeling confident. We had a very young and inexperienced team that took a gigantic leap forward in their development. Reaching the district quarterfinals was a nice accomplishment and an important one for our program, in terms of maintaining a tradition of excellence and giving the players a sense of accomplishment.”

Liberty finished the season 12-7, while Freedom ended their campaign at 11-10.
