Bethlehem Catholic advanced to the semifinal round of the East Penn Conference Softball Tournament but lost to Parkland 4-1 on Monday night at Pates Park.
The Hawks were hoping for redemption after an earlier season loss to the Trojans.
“I thought we played extremely well against Parkland [the first time] even though we lost,” said Becahi coach Rich Mazza, “but I take the blame because sometimes I think I try to get them too pumped up.”
On Monday night, the game was tied 1-1 until the fourth inning when Parkland scored one run. The Trojans scored two more runs in the fifth inning.
Last Friday, the Hawks defeated Easton 12-3 in the semifinal at Becahi.
The Red Rovers took an early 3-0 lead, but the Hawks tied the game in the third inning before continuing their comeback.
Two days earlier, Becahi defeated Easton 5-2.
“It’s a different ball game in leagues and districts because everyone wants to beat us, but we need to say to ourselves, it’s just another softball game,” said Becahi captain Maddie Ensley. “I think we need to come in here and not look at others’ records and where they’ve been.”
The Hawks will now compete in the district tournament which is scheduled to begin on May 22.
“Athletically, they’re as good a team as Beca has ever been, but we’ve got to put it together on the field,” Mazza said.
